Project Scale: Landscaping Area – 99,800㎡
Design Time: December 2012
The project is located in the southwest of Kunshan, Jiangsu, and is close to the ancient town – Zhouzhuang. "Far away in the distance is the golden wave of Dianshan Lake in the east of Jinxi that connects the smooth jade-like surface of Chenghu Lake." Jinxi has been nicknamed the "Waves of Gold and Jade" for a long time because it is in close proximity to various lakes – Dianshan Lake to the east, Chenghu Lake to the west, Wubao Lake to the south, Fanqing Lake and Bailian Lake to the north, and has the advantage of unique culture.
The project is composed of waterfront villas in modern Chinese style with large Chinese eaves, white walls and black tiles as well as simple and clear lines. On the basis of its region and the surrounding environment of waterfront towns in southern China, the landscape design aims at creating a waterfront town of delicacy, comfort and privacy. The site is situated in southern China where the landscape of running water is diversified, and in the course of historical development, the disparate scenery is formed impressively – "the ordinary family resides in a house with an outside view of little bridge and running water". The site is also embraced by running water and bubbling streams. In consideration of all of them, the vision of the landscape design is defined to be "Waterfront Town Impression" – "In the riverside town wooden buildings are erected over water. The small house lay down lightly on the river with gentle willow trees on both sides. The tall walls and narrow streets extend forward to the distance and finally disappear into the misty rain." Through pursuing the dream-like life in waterfront towns and secluding in the alleys of southern China, the landscape design deepens the scenery of southern China in a modern way that reveals landscape elements of "waterfront towns' garden, street, lane, bridge and pier". Thus, the southern China’s scenery of misty rain and the secluded lifestyle of waterfront towns are created.
The planting design is developed with a focus on traditional Chinese style as well as nature and ecology. The place-making emphasizes the combination of open and close. The contrast of texture and color is obvious in various plants, and the scenery will change in four seasons. The result is a cozy and natural landscape space. In addition, in the limited lanes between buildings as well as the unit entry space are integrated with traditional Chinese plants including bamboo, Camellia, Osmamthus, Magnolia and Malus spectabilis that express an infinite imagery of humanitarian culture.
