Distinctive local featuring elements are well integrated into the design of this project, such as elements of Wu culture, the Canal and historical evolution relics of local industry and commerce. By this means, the existing features of ancient architecture on the site are well protected, to keep the original unique sense of history in this ancient block. Accordingly, the block is designed as an open-air museum of history through combining various forms of business with functional partition of landscape space. Thus, it becomes a modern representation of Along the River During the Qingming Festival (a masterpiece painted in Northern Song Dynasty), showing the charm of ancient China for people in the 21st century.
