Zhuwu Alley is located at the north bank of West Lake in Huizhou. Embraced by local mountain and lake, the site has a supreme view of the natural landscape. It was once a gathering venue for literati like Zhu Zhishan (also named Zhu Yunming, a famous Chinese calligrapher, poet, writer, and scholar-official in the Ming Dynasty) in the ancient time. The design team adopted a micro-renovation strategy that focuses on subtle interventions of street decoration, landscape installations, murals, signage, sounds and lighting to effectively reduce the renovation cost of the main hardscapes on the whole alley. With the brand-new space layout of "one street, two alleys and five nodes", Zhuwu Alley, along by the local "little west lake", is now gradually developing itself into a fashionable cultural and creative urban block and a "name card" to represent Huizhou as a booming city for cultural tourism.
