The Orient Original is located in the very center of Sunhe Villa District in Beijing. It is a lakeside residence surrounded by the woodland. With mountains at the back and water at the front, it forms a natural topography of a north-to-south gradient for the residence. This kind of landscape topography is believed as an excellent residential location according to the traditional Chinese metaphysics in The Craft of Gardens (“Yuan Ye” in Chinese), labeled as the first monograph dedicated to garden architecture in the world. By adopting unique craftsmanship of classical Chinese gardening, contemporary lifestyle are perfectly reshaped and reinterpreted, and the design considerately create a specific charm of the classic Oriental gardens for residents to enjoy their leisure time here.
There were limited public spaces on the existed project site for its complicated crisscross paths and alleys mainly with brick and cement paving. It was really a big challenge for the designers. Nevertheless, designers drew their inspiration from various types of designing concepts and landscaping techniques of neo-Chinese garden. A high-end residential garden was eventually born by making full use of the existing limited spaces with smart designing intelligence.
